|
| Ms LI Yuet-han, Mina, an English Teacher from St. Mark's School |
| Abstract |
This sharing section demonstrates how dynamics and liveliness work in a language classroom through initiating language art which is one of the most interactive means of appreciating a language. An experience is shared concerning a collaborative and creativity-oriented classroom involving a series of drama-script writing workshops with students. Tapping student creativity invites fun and motivates students by providing them with an opportunity to express themselves in unimagined ways.Face-to-face interaction during hands-on learning activities produces a substantively different kind of language when compared with written text produced as a report on the learning task. |

Ms LEE Man-yee, Shirley, an English Teacher from Ho Dao College |
| Abstract |
This workshop provides a sharing session of implementing task-based learning in a local CMI secondary school from the perspective of an English teacher. Her design of learning activities was based on the task-based learning approach which aimed at engaging her Secondary 2 students and increasing their ability to communicate effectively.Since task-based language teaching is an approach which seeks to provide learners with a natural context for language use, one thing Ms Lee did was to take her students a long way from their Yuen Long school to the Hong Kong International Airport. At the airport, learners worked to complete a task of interviewing tourists, with subsequently abundant opportunities to interact. Such interaction facilitates language acquisition as learners have to work to understand each other and to express their own meaning.Ms Lee will provide background information of the approach and outline the general principles and characteristics of it. She will also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the approach by considering its efficacy for teaching and learning. |

| Abstract |
This workshop aims at demonstrating how English can be learned and practised in a context of authentic communication through organising and participating in a cross-form language carnival. Under the guidance of teachers, the Secondary 6 students were required to write proposals and make presentations on how to organise curriculum-based games for lower form students. Upon completion of the carnival, the Secondary 6 students put together a post-activity presentation and wrote a report evaluating the activity. After going through different project stages, both the senior and junior form students felt that, not only had they enjoyed the activities, they also felt they had gained in the terms of their English language skills. |
