Messages from the Dean

The year 2005 is special for the Faculty of Education.

It marks the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Education. The Faculty has shown a strong dedication to and a high achievement in the education sector and the profession. We excel in teacher training and educational research, which are of substance to the quality of education as well as to the development of our children. The enviable records in community services also embody our commitment with and leadership in the education domain.

It is also an opportune moment to venerate the past so as to help us plan for the future. The Faculty evolved from a tiny unit into a hub of education talents and resources. In the early days, we only had a handful of lecturers offering a dozen courses for a single programme. Now, the Faculty is staffed by 300 plus academic, administrative and research staff, offering over 400 courses for diverse programmes and handling over a hundred research projects. The alumni force grows into 16,000 professionals who make contributions in almost every sector of our society. With all such strengths, we succeed in cultivating a fertile ground for educational leadership and development. We will go forth to explore collaboration opportunities with prominent parties for creation of synergy and achievement of excellence.

Hence, it is not only the birthday honoring the first forty years of the Faculty, but to usher in the next forty or hundreds of year. The Faculty wonˇ¦t be complacent, but will proactively drive for continuous improvement and ongoing development, while the spirit which made it a huge success lives on.
