Experimental Study on Depressive Self-Schema (Article written in chinese)

QIAN Mingyi, LI Xu, & ZHANG Guangjian

Abstract

Differences in self-schema were compared among 30 dysphorics and 33 non-dysphorics through SRET (self-referent encoding task) in this study. The results showed that dysphorics tended to describe themselves using more negative words, and recalled more negative words after the task than those of nondysphoris. The more significant finding in this study was that compared to non-dysphoric, the dysphoric group showed a less positive bias to processing state information, which were both in the tendency of recall contents and reaction time. Whereas there was no difference of processing bias in trait information between the two groups. The authors argued that there might be different levels in the construction of one’s self-schema. State contents might be more on the surface whereas trait contents might be more deep and stable, which is the core part influencing the vulnerability of depression.
