Abstract

The thymopeptdum is a well-characterized immunopotentiating hormone, the present experiments were designed to study whether thymopeptdum modulated the immune system as an antistress factor. The controllable/uncontrollable footshock were used as psychological stress. After 6 times of footshocks, 0.5hr per session, the humoral immunity of uncontrollable old rats decreased significantly, while the humoral immunity of controllable rats was not significantly changed comparing to the control group. The levels of glucocorticoid hormone of the two stress groups increased heavily. The stressor controllability had influence on the levels of serum IgG of rats. However, every other day for 6 times intraperitoneally infections of thymopeptdum antagonized these changes, it improved humoral immunity of stressed rats, suppressed the ascending trend of glucocorticoid hormone. The above-mentioned results demonstrated the thymopeptdum had antistress and antisenility effect.
