Abstract
This study used an improved paradigm of object searching to examine 7-, 9-, and 11-year-old primary school childrens ability in encoding target locations. The performance of the 9- and 11-year-olds were significantly higher than that of the 7-year-olds. For the 7-year-olds, the performance in locating two landmarks was significantly better than that of encoding three locations. This task effect was absent from the two older groups. For all age groups, encoding performance was better under the cued condition.
