ZHANG Shifu & YANG Shaomin

Abstract

In 1980 the investigators were surprised to find that the adolescent moral character and personality among Kemu, Jinuo, Hani and Lahu were fairly good. The investigation was in 2002 mostly concerned about the development of their moral character and personality under the influences of open policy and modernizations, aiming at drawing some rules from the development which would be very important and meaningful to the study of cross cultural psychology. This research worked using different methods: such as interviewing, making individual contact, activity analysis and even staying for months with the adolescents there for the sake of closer investigation, from which we learned that the adolescents there had changed a lot in their ideas and feelings through the past twenty years. Now they have become more self-confident, optimistic, full of the sense of competition. They seek for a kind of new, modern, wealthy life; but up to now, their moral character remained good. There are few people who have committed crimes. Socialization has played an important role in the stated development.
