A Study of the Characteristics of Science and Technology Related Issues: Comparisons Among Different Sources (Article written in chinese)

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare the levels of question in science and technology related issues presented by news media, elementary school teachers, and citizens. Science and technology related issues presented by news media were collected by literature review and those presented by elementary school teachers and citizens were collected by survey method.

A three-level classification system (awareness model, salience model and priorities model) was utilized to examine the level of the issues. Each issue was assigned to one of the three categories. Analysis of the results indicated that science and technology related issues presented by news media belong to awareness model are more often than expected. Additionally, science and technology related issues presented by elementary school teachers and citizens belong to awareness model and salience model are more often than expected too. When comparing the sources to each other, the questions level of science and technology related issues presented by the news media, elementary school teachers and citizens are not the same. But all of these show a very low ratio of priorities model questions.
