Junior College Students' Learning About the Relative Concept of Quadratic Function Using Computer Assisted Learning (CAL) (Article written in chinese)

Rueyming HU

Abstract

Computer-assisted learning (CAL) software of quadratic functions was designed in the research. Hypertext structure was used in the program. Sixty students were selected from first grade electrical engineering students at a private institute of technology according to their average mathematics scores. Twenty of them were in the upper rank, 20 of them were in the middle rank, and 20 in the lower rank. The students were divided into two groups. The experimental group learned quadratic functions u sing CAL, but the control group did not. The results of this study were as follows: (1) There was a statistically significant difference between the experimental group and the control group (p < 0.01), with the experimental group achieving more; (2) The m ath achievement of the 10 students from the upper rank was higher than the 10 students from the middle rank, and the 10 students from the middle rank achieved higher than the 10 students from the lower rank in the experimental group; (3) There was no sign ificant difference between the 10 students from the lower rank of the experimental group and the 10 students from the lower rank of the control group; (4) In navigational patterns, 63% of students followed the proper sequence in CAL's learning process; (5 ) There were several common misconceptions in learning the relative concept of quadratic function.
