Abstract
Taking CMARC format for instance, this article endeavors to analyze the significance of machine readable cataloging in terms of exchange format, field, and information, in order to clarify certain misconceptions about MARC. Currently available softwares are used to illustrate how could the MARC for computers be transformed to more tape format (ISO 2709), field format, card format (ISBD), and linear format.
