A Decision Framework for a Library Automation Project with Special Reference to the Small and Medium Scale Libraries

Abstract

Library automation is a timely necessity of the era. During the period of past two decades, the number of automated library systems in developed and developing countries has grown rapidly. But taking into consideration of the libraries in Sri Lanka, most of the libraries have not been computerized their functions yet. Many libraries in Sri Lanka examine the possibilities to acquire at least a small type of computer system. So this paper presents a general idea to make decisions on automation of remote small libraries. All libraries must be cautious in making automation, by specially all small libraries must be cautious. Because they can afford to make faults even less a large library.
