Chaoyun Chaucer LIANG

Abstract

Along with the development of information technology, distance education has entered into a new era. While most related research focus on system design and hardware development, few of them concentrate on Instructional Development (ID) activities such as needs analysis, course design, activity arrangement, and media application, in this unique environment. Through the questionnaire survey and in-depth interview with the teachers, students and staff involved, this research is aimed at describing current status, uncovering problems, and exploring the resolutions of the present telecommunication distance education in Taiwan. Based upon the research outcomes, ID components, such as instructional resources, supports & services, class rehearsal, and media utilization, are quite different from the tradition educational mode, especially the factor of educational administration and policy. The results of this research can not only be applied in improving the quality of distance education, but also have promising suggestions toward theory elaboration, faculty development, staff training, and professional practice in the field of distance education.
