Using Multimedia to Support Media Center Programs

Elizabeth Kirby BENNETT

Abstract

Multimedia software applications such as PowerPoint and HyperStudio offer media specialists many ways to enhance programs and services for students, faculty, and parents. From simple to complex, multimedia slideshows can be developed to: (1) share information about activities and resources; (2) promote programs; (3) support instruction; and (4) train students and faculty to follow routine procedures. A video or LCD projector can be used to present multimedia to large groups, a television and scan converter work well for medium sized groups, and a stand-alone kiosk facilitates individual viewing. Following basic design principles will result in effective multimedia presentations.
