Libraries Build Community

Abstract

This paper examines the need for building partnerships between libraries of all types (academic, public, special, and school) and other groups and organizations within the constituency. Guidelines are offered for thinking about potential partnerships and for finding appropriate partners. Many examples of successful partnerships are described including partnerships sponsored by the American Library Association that are open to individual library participation. The author was President of the American Library Association, 1999-2000 and the focus of her presidency was, “Libraries Build Community”.
