Legacy of a Circus King — Three Rings of Records: The Development of an Archival Program at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art

Deborah W. WALK

Abstract

Each archival repository contains unique materials that draw researchers to the institution. Sometimes as unique as the records held is the history of the institution itself. The Archives at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is rooted in the history of the Gilded Age, the extravagance of the American Circus, and the vision of a legacy dreamed of by a Circus King. The records, resources and information held in the archival collections as varied and reflect the interests, desires, and dreams of the founders of the Museum themselves.
