Designing a Group Teaching Computer Classroom (Article written in chinese)

Hsin-jong HUANG & Shih-chung LEE

Abstract

The rapid development of computer network technology has speeded up the utilization of computers in instruction. Today, computer classrooms are mainly designed for teacher-centered lecturing and student computer operation. This, however, can no longer meet the needs of teachers as well as students. Theories on student-centered instruction emphasize teacher-student interaction, peer interaction among students and individualized instruction, all of which provide a new perspective for the design of computer classrooms. The purpose of this study was to design a computer classroom for group teaching, discussing factors such as sites, devices and ergonomic issues. It is hoped that this design can provide guidelines for future computer classroom development so that computer technology can be better implemented into instructions.
