Library Service for the 21st Century

Sarah Ann LONG

Abstract

What will the organization known as a library look like in the future? New models of learning are helping to shape services in both academic and public libraries. Integrating the information resources of the electronic research library into more traditional resources and facilitating learning will become key functions in libraries. The emphasis no longer will be strictly on traditional library materials. Libraries will continue to exist even when everyone has a computer on their desk but they will have to differentiate what they offer from what the Internet has to offer.

Keywords: future; learning; academic libraries; library services; electronic resources
