Asian American Literature in School Libraries

Abstract

American schools have become more diverse than ever, with many children coming from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Asian American students, though, not the largest minority group, have been gaining steady increase in recent years. This article will discuss the needs of including Asian American literature in school libraries and the evaluation criteria of Asian American literature. Outstanding Asian American authors, illustrators, and literature will be highlighted. Suggestions will be given on how schoolteachers and library media specialists help Asian American students appreciate their own literature.
