Alliances for Educational Access: A Model for Partnership Environments

Mem STAHLEY & Jennifer PLATT

Abstract

The intent of this article is to describe the university-community college partnership and technology model emerging within the University of Central Florida’s (UCF) growing multicampus system. The article describes the expanding university-community college partnerships at UCF, the challenges and benefits that this expansion offers, and how the use of technology is addressing the need for programs and services at area sites. The article examines student, faculty, and staff information and access needs, particularly at remote campus locations. Areas for examination include existing information access levels and systems, information processes and needs, and existing staff and systems support within university libraries and at partnering university-community college campuses, sites, and centers. The goal of the examination is to describe the current information access environment, to evaluate options and challenges, and to identify an appropriate information access model to cost-effectively and conveniently address the connectivity needs of all university stakeholders.
