Analysing the References of Final Year Project Reports

N. N. EDZAN

Abstract

Citation analysis of students’ bibliographies is one of numerous assessment methods which can be used to determine success of any information literacy or information skills programme in meeting its learning outcomes. These programmes teach the students how to search for information and how to use different sources of information. Thus, the outcome should be reflected in the students’ work, one of which is the final year project reports. This study attempts to analyse the final year project reports of the students from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. These students would have attended the mandatory Information Skills course which is offered by the University of Malaya Library to first year undergraduates. Within the study, various other studies were reviewed in an effort to further develop the necessary rules for comparison and analysis.
