Ting-ming Lai

Abstract
This article investigates the paradigm shift in the studies of information needs and uses. Three criteria are applied to compare the differences between traditional paradigm and alternative paradigm: the definition of information, the underlying assumptions, and their different research approaches. This investigation intents to advocate a new thinking in library and information field and a new approach in the research of information needs and uses.
