The Continuing Education of Taiwan's Urban Librarians through Distance Education

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find the attitude and opinions of Taiwan's urban librarians about their continuing educaion through distance educaion. Questionnaire survey method was used by the study. The sample is the all urban librarians in Taiwan area. There are 320 questionnaires which approved valid. Data was analyzed by SPSS-X computer program. The staisical techniques were kai-square and frequency.

The result of this study found: 1. The most Taiwan's urban librarians are female, married, graduated from high school, over half never received library professional training, and their work were temporary, the years for library work were short 2. Only about half of the librarians got the continuing education during the recent 3 years; the inconvenience of time and locaion, lacking of information resources were the main obstacles to continuing education. 3. Most of the librarians agreed the instructional methods of distance education; the important factors affecting their attendance to distance education were: lacking of incentives, broading time not ideal, and having no time.
