The article is designed for small institutions and individuals who are just beginning to use multimedia. The article also gives an overview of early developments in multimedia, its use, and its role as a learning and teaching tool. Early multimedia programs and projects in colleges and schools are briefly dicussed. It gives basic information about multimedia technology and provides informtion regarding multimedia system configurations and suggests upgrading existing pensonal computers to multimedia systems for those in institutions and individuls with financial constraints.
