An Application of Confirmatory Factor Analysis to Examine the Construct Validity of Career Commitment (Article written in chinese)

Chiung-Jung HUANG

Abstract

Teacher commitment involves organizational, career, job commitment, and so on. Among these components, the definition of career commitment is the most ambiguous. The purpose of this inquiry is to examine the construct validity of career commitment using confirmatory factor analysis. London’s (1983) model was used as the major framework of this investigation. According to the index of goodness of fit, the oblique-factor model is the best representation of data, while performance of the orthogonal-factor model is poor. These findings indicate that the correlation between components of career commitment cannot be ignored. Hence, principal factor analysis followed by an orthogonal rotation such as VARIMAX, QUARTIMA, EQUIMAX, is not recommended for understanding the construct validity of career commitment.
