A Study of University and College Tuition Policies in Taiwan

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to give an understanding of the changing processes and the influence of university and college tuition policies during the last fifteen years in Taiwan. The research method involves a review of the literature and data analyses. It discusses the relationships among tuition fees, per capita income, consumer price indices, educational costs, salaries of public servants, and distribution of educational resources between public and private universities and colleges.

At the end of this paper, the author emphasizes that in the formulation of tuition policies, other than economic indications , the government should also take into account other factors, such as subsidies and the economic status of students.
