Abstract
The paper systematically evaluates the merits and demerits of the code model, arguing that the code model which is rule-governed fails to describe fully many complicated phenomena in linguistic communication, for instance, the contextualization of meaning, the interpersonal illocutionary acts, and the cognition process of inference, etc. The author suggests that a macro-model should be established on the basis of such factors as cognition and social-culture.
