Abstract
Borrowed words can be observed and studied through the language of social groups. The language of social groups can be divided into 3 major groups: the language of the entire group, of the mother group and of the child group. It can also be divided into that of the standard group and local group, of the native group and non-native group according to other standards. Taiwan is unique and it belongs to the local group. The types and numbers of Taiwan’s borrowed words reflect its unique characteristics. However, this uniqueness is only limited to certain aspects.
