Abstract
The PUTONGHUA or common Chinese speech instruction program for Hong Kong and Macao Cantonese speaking learners is designed in consideration of the specific conditions of the local dialectal environment, and therefore it is different from what is prepared for other local dialect speakers in the mainland or foreigners. In this paper the author discusses the characteristics of such a putonghua instruction program and has summed up therefrom ten principles as its guidance.
