Abstract
The paper discusses several problems of PUTONGHUA emerging from the designing of the questionnaire on the survey of Chinese Language Situation. Three things are mentioned: (1) how to tell the difference between PUTONGHUA and Chinese dialects in practical surveying; (2) different ways of different surveying of the degree of PUTONGHUA; (3) the theoretical problems emerging from the contact between PUTONGHUA and Chinese dialects, and the contact between different Chinese dialects.
