Five Decades of Chinese Teaching as a Foreign Language — Review and Thoughts at the Transit of Century (Article written in chinese)

Abstract

This paper consists of two parts. Part One is, based on the data provided by the Ministry of Education and the State Office for the Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language, a review of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language, during the last 5 decades, especially during the last 20 years since China started implementing the policy of reform and opening to the outside world. In Part Two, the author puts forward some thoughts and ideas on the sustained development of the discipline at the beginning of the new century as envisaged in the Program for the Enhancement of the Teaching of Chinese as a Foreign Language and proposed by some experts of China. What the paper emphasized is the development of the discipline during the past and in the future.
