ZHU Chuan & LI Shizhong

Abstract

Cleft palate is a common hereditary disease of the mouth cavity that can be corrected by surgery. However, as they formed improper habits in pronunciation due to their articulation defects and compensation before operation, many patients have, after operation, serious pronouncing drawbacks, which influence communication and call for correction. The authors of this paper have undergone an experimental research based on phonetic recovery training to patients of cleft palate after they received surgical operation for a long time. During the experiment they analyzed the vowels and consonants, the formant incompleteness, the disturbance of nasal sounds and other problems caused by compensation of the patients by means of sound spectrum analysis. They summarized typical acoustic characters of the speech sounds of cleft palate patients and analyzed the process of correction, rules of the study of articulation recovery, emphasis and effective methods of correction.
