Abstract
This is the report of an investigation of the use of Putonghua among students of and graduates from the non-normal colleges and universities in Henan Province. It probes into the reasons why they speak Putonghua and dialects alternatively. Further, it maintains that it is a pressing and feasible task to introduce the Putonghua proficiency test in these colleges and universities.
