Some Considerations about and Trial of Transcribing Words Composed of Latin Letters (Article written in chinese)

JIA Baoshu

Abstract

At present, more and more words composed of Latin letters are appearing in and are admitted to modern Chinese vocabulary. However, there are different views on how they should be transcribed, and in many dictionaries, transcriptions of this kind of words are not given. The author of this paper holds that if they are not transcribed in the Chinese way, words of this kind could not be included in Chinese lexical system and that it is possible to transcribe them with the Pinyin system due to the openness of the Chinese phonetic system and similarities between Chinese and other phonetic systems.

Keywords: words composed of Latin letters; transcribe; the phonetic system in Putonghua
