Abstract
This paper presents an investigation on the Putonghua performance of students of six middle schools in three regions, which shows that the present Putonghua performance of middle school students is far from being satisfactory, and lags far behind the requirements of the national norms. Having found the reasons that lead to this situation after a comparison in this respect, the author puts forward some suggestions on the measures that can be taken for improvement.
