One of the Important Tasks in Applied Linguistics: Research Work on Re-wording of Great Writers (Article written in chinese)

WU Xigen

Abstract

This paper treats the research work on re-wording as an attempt to reconstruct the psychological process undergoing during the writers’ literary creation, and thus recognizes it as more demonstrative and more convincing compared with other linguistic approaches. Based on a detailed analysis of a large amount of research materials, we find some problems in this field: exaggerated evaluation, under- and/or mis-interpretation of the underlying cause, and mis-application of linguistic knowledge. Therefore, the paper concludes, further development of such research is dependent on the solution of the following fundamental problems: the objectivity of evaluation standards, the systematicness of case study, the degree of contextual constraint, the relationship between efficient research work and personal competence in linguistic theory.

Keywords: research work on re-wording of great writers; function; status quo; countermeasure
