Abstract

There have been a great number of letter-words in Chinese language since China’s adoption of the open-door policy in 1979. There exist disputes over the category ascription and standardization of the letter-words. In this paper the authors assert that we should take the letter-words as Chinese words. We also put forward our ideas on the standard pronunciation and usage of letter-words.

Keywords: letter-words; category ascription; standardization
