Abstract
This paper is written on the basis of an investigation of 260 textbooks of Chinese as a foreign language. The first part reviews the innovations in the past 5 years in the general programming and theories of textbook compilation as well as the local breakthrough in the aspects of pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, subject matter of text and exercises in the textbooks. The second part analyses from various microcosmic viewpoints of textbooks the surprising facts of the consecutive repetition on the same level of a great deal of textbooks of Chinese as a foreign language. The third part points out several problems facing the innovation and breakthrough in textbook compilation.
