Abstract
The article expounds the necessity and the general principle of making the Table of Normalized Chinese Characters, one of the State Language Commission’s key research projects for the Tenth Five-Year Plan. Such problems as character simplification, arrangement of variant forms, and word quantity are deliberated. The general frame of the Table is planned.
