The Issue of Pronunciation of Lettered Words in Chinese Revisited (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

Lettered words are a particular component in the lexical system of contemporary Chinese. At present, pronunciation of foreign letters in lettered words is still a controversial issue, and all disputes about it focus on whether to pronounce according to English or Chinese phonetic system. Based on a survey and a feasibility research of applying Chinese phonetic system to the pronunciation of foreign letters in lettered words, this paper suggests that Standard English pronunciation should be established as a criterion of pronouncing the lettered words in contemporary Chinese.
