Mao Zedong’s View of Language Use (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

Mao Zedong was not only a great Marxism theorist, but also a great language master. He not only achieved greatly in the language practice, but also made an outstanding contribution to the language theory. On the basis of an in-depth study of Mao’s literature such as his writings, speeches and written remarks, this article generalizes concisely Mao Zedong’s view of language use, which is mainly the following: 1) Attaching great importance to the language’s function as tool; 2) Defining definitely the “Three Characters” of accuracy, clarity and vividness as required in language use; 3) Advocating greatly the popular style of language use characterized with Chinese grandeur; 4) Accentuating repeatedly the principle of language use of “putting the people in the first place”.
