Abstract
Based on an investigations recently made on the popularization of Putonghua in 7 municipalities representing the South, Middle and North of Jiangsu Province, this paper manages to make an assessment and summary of the current proficiency of Putonghua of the public servants, the present situation of the popularization of Putonghua in the government branches, and the background of the problems in the process of popularization. In this paper, I also try to make suggestions on how to promote the popularization of Putonghua among the public servants on the basis of an analysis of their consciousness of popularization of Putonghua, economic status, communication style, and the concerning policies and regulations.
