Abstract
The List of the First Series of Standardized Forms of Words with Non-Standardized Variant Forms has played a significant role in reducing the number of effective Chinese characters, and standardizing their forms. But, due to various subjective and objective reasons, there still exist many defects in this list. This article analyzes eight major existing problems in the List. It believes that these problems should be paid attention to and taken caution of during the development of The List of Standardized Chinese Characters and the further standardization of those Chinese characters with variant forms.
