The Basic Principles of the Standardization of New Words and Expressions (Article written in Chinese)

Abstract

This paper holds the aim that standardization is to benefit communication. The target of standardization is mainly the words and expressions with comprehensive influence in the society. The criteria of standardization are the rate of communication, or the level of communication appropriation. .Under the basic principles of standardization, there are manifold principles such as necessity, richness, economy and distinctiveness, fitting up to structure rules, focus on international compatibility, “Greater-Chinese”oriented, use and dynamic change, and guiding function. The characteristic of “novelty” in new words and expressions should be noticed, which requires difference way and strategy of standardization. The simplifying skills and simplified terms should be differentiated. The level of standardization, or the concept of gradation, should be adopted. The paper holds that the scope of the new words and expressions being Chinese in properties is expanding.
