The Study on Patterns of Speech Communication in Family (Article written in Chinese)

WU Wei

Abstract

This paper is a result of my tracking investigation of two bilingual families for 20 years, which shows that there are two types on family speech: the closed one and the open one. The pattern is relatively stable when observed synchronically and in dynamic change if observed diachronically. Focusing on the communication patterns of family speech, this paper holds that two factors account for the change of the family speech patterns: 1) The change of family member; 2) the influences from the milieu external of the speech environment.

Keywords: bilingualism; communication; patterns
