Abstract
The character “氏” in the phrase “氏著” which appears in publications in Hong Kong and Taiwan is an anaphoric nominal morpheme. “氏著” refers to a certain piece of work. It can be used as a polite expression. It should be taken into the standard Chinese, together with “拙著”, “大作”, to form a group of self-depreciatory or other-elevating expression.
