An Acoustic Study of the Boundary Features of Prosodic Units (Article written in Chinese)

XIONG Ziyu

Abstract

This paper analyzes the boundary features of different levels of prosodic units in continuous speech based on read corpus. Results show that there is no perceptible silent pause after prosodic words and silent pauses of certain length will appear after other levels of prosodic units, and with the increase of the level of the prosodic units, the length of silent pause after them will also increase. The duration of the finals of the first syllable of any prosodic unit will not be affected by its prosodic level, which will neither lengthen nor get shortened, while the duration of the finals of the last syllable of any prosodic unit will be significantly affected by its prosodic level. The finals of the last syllable of prosodic words will not lengthen while the finals of the last syllable of other prosodic units will lengthen to some extent.
