Abstract
There are different views on the linguistic features of erhua (¨à¤Æ) in standard Chinese. In this paper, it is found that erhua is certainly a morpheme from the perspective of phonetic meaning and function. The conclusion is that er (¨à) serves two functions, one is suffix to form a new word, and another is inflectional ending to increase or change the accessional meaning of the word.
