On the Normal Usage of Foreign Letters in Chinese (Article written in Chinese)

ZHOU Xiaolin

Abstract

Using foreign letters alone does not comply with the law of China, as well as does not express the precise meaning of things. Besides, using foreign letters alone sometimes will lead to misunderstanding in speech communication. Therefore, people are not encouraged to use foreign letters alone. People ought to use foreign letters normally in different conditions: some of the foreign letters have had corresponding translated words in Chinese, so people should not use them again; while some foreign letters have not been translated into Chinese temporarily for their complex meanings and diffuse expressions in Chinese, so people may use them with explanatory notes in Chinese. The standard use of words with foreign letters can be treated equally as the standard use of foreign letters.

Keywords: lettered words; foreign letters; use normally
