Abstract
In Chinese empty words, the structural auxiliary word “de” (ªº) is used most frequently. There are plenty of researches on it. This paper discusses the ellipsis of “de” from two aspects: selectivity and compulsivity. The author also discusses the restrictive factors of the ellipsis of “de”.
