Abstract
This paper focuses on materials development of Chinese as a Foreign Language Teaching (CFLT), based on the information obtained in the needs analysis at home and abroad. The materials of CFLT are a natural selection. As CFLT is in great demand, varieties of materials should be developed to match different classroom needs. Therefore, materials developers with creativity should go beyond the framework of traditional materials design. My discussion of this issue will be organized around the following 6 perspectives: (1) rich and varied content of materials is essential to language learners skills training; (2) new models of teaching should be constructed for the purpose of materials development; (3) the Chinese Phonetic System should be exploited to the full in developing materials; (4) attention should be paid to the distinctive characteristics of Chinese language and Chinese characters; (5) full use of the latest achievements in language teaching and learning research should be made; (6) perfect materials should be sought.
