On the Analysis of the Applied Value (Marked Value) Related to the Word with Variant Forms (Article written in Chinese)

ZOU Yuhua

Abstract

Language is the most important communicative vehicle of human beings and communication serves as the life of language. The principle of applicative value for language should be the essential one to govern the standardization of linguistic characters. In terms of its nature, the value of variant forms pertaining to the same word refers to the degree in which a word form marks both the signifier (sound) and the signified (meaning) of a linguistic sign, which can be called the marked value. If the marked value indicates a higher degree, it means that the decoding is more speedy and correct, and hence with a greater value. Otherwise, the lower degree indicates a poorer value. In one word, the marked value functions as the internal mechanism to guide the orientation of variant forms’ changes.
